Centrus Health has the largest number of attributed lives in value-based agreements in the Kansas City metro

WESTWOOD, Kan. (September 19, 2022) Centrus Health Kansas City, a physician-led, clinically integrated network (CIN), began summer 2017 with 1,600+ providers covering nearly 110,000 lives in the Kansas City metro. Half a decade later, Centrus Health KC is currently comprised of more than 2,300 providers covering more than 175,000 lives, making it the Kansas City metro’s largest accountable care organization in operation.

“Centrus Health is committed to improving the quality and lowering the cost of patient care in Kansas City, not only for the next five years, but for generations to come,” said Jill Watson, Executive Director of Centrus Health KC.

Centrus Health KC brings providers together in a partnership designed to improve the quality – and lower the cost – of patient care across the entire continuum. It works collaboratively with participating physician practices to share data to avoid duplicating services and improve the overall experience for patients and providers by keeping people as healthy as possible while lowering the cost of healthcare.

The network currently includes physicians from three major health systems in the greater Kansas City metro (AdventHealth, North Kansas City Hospital, The University of Kansas Health System) and many independent practices including members of the Kansas City Metropolitan Physician Association. Centrus Health KC also has a partnership with Children’s Mercy Health Network.

Managing more than 175,000 patients, Centrus Health KC has contracts with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), Aetna and Oscar Health as a transformative, commercial Accountable Care Organization (ACO). The partners have demonstrated a shared vision of ensuring Kansas City residents have access to high quality care at more affordable prices. Centrus Health KC also participates in the Medicare Shared Savings Program – an ACO designed to improve quality and lower the total cost of care for patients insured under the Medicare program.

“We engaged with Centrus Health at the very beginning, were part of architecting the concept and continue to work to find even more wins for our consumers,” said Greg Sweat, MD, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) Senior Vice President and Chief Health Officer.

Other recent accomplishments for Centrus Health include its first direct-to-employer contract with NFM (Nebraska Furniture Mart) in February 2022. This contract provides an innovative option for high quality, affordable care, making Centrus Health the exclusive provider network for NFM employees.

“Our direct to employer contract with Centrus Health is proving positive results,” said Tiffaney Skaw, Nebraska Furniture Mart Strategic HR Manager. “By the end of 2022, we are projecting significant savings in medical spend. Narrowing a network of providers takes work, but it’s clearly been a win for NFM.”

Overall, Centrus Health KC has identified itself as the network of choice for employers looking for innovative direct relationships with providers. The network is the Kansas City metro’s largest value-based care program, currently covering nearly 175,000 lives in the Kansas City metro.
